Cash Flow Forecast Calculator
Enter a starting balance, expected monthly income and expenses to project your cash position forward and spot a shortfall before it happens.
How to read your result
The calculator projects your balance forward one month at a time: each month adds your expected income and subtracts your expected expenses from the previous month's ending balance. The table shows every month so you can see the trend, not just the final number.
If any month's balance goes negative, that's the first month you'd run out of cash at this rate — the earlier you see that, the more options you have (cut costs, chase invoices, arrange finance) before it becomes an emergency.
Worked example
A business starts with €5,000 in the bank, expects €8,000 of income and €9,500 of expenses every month, and forecasts 6 months ahead. Net monthly cash flow is €8,000 − €9,500 = −€1,500. After month 1 the balance is €3,500; it keeps falling by €1,500 each month and turns negative in month 4 (€5,000 − 4 × €1,500 = −€1,000) — three months of warning to act before the account actually runs dry.
Formula
Ending balance (month N) = Starting balance + (Monthly income − Monthly expenses) × N
Good to know
This calculator is deliberately simple: one income figure and one expense figure, applied every month. Real businesses have lumpy invoices, seasonal sales and one-off bills — this tool is best used as an early-warning check, not a substitute for tracking actual receivables, payables and payroll dates week by week.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this forecast account for seasonal or irregular income?+
No — it assumes level (constant) monthly income and expenses, which makes it fast but approximate. For week-by-week forecasting with real invoices, bills and best/worst-case scenarios, use a dedicated cash flow planning system.
What counts as "starting cash balance"?+
Your actual bank balance today, across all business accounts you want to include. It can be negative if you're currently overdrawn.
Why does the forecast only go up to 24 months?+
Beyond about two years, fixed monthly assumptions stop being a useful approximation of a real business — for longer-range planning you need scenario-based forecasting, not a flat projection.
Is my data saved or sent anywhere?+
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing you enter is stored or transmitted.
